THAI RED CROSS ACTIVITIES IN PICTURES (MAY 2/2012)


On 30 May 2012, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, commemorated its 98th anniversary. During its long history,the Hospital has kept to its mission of providing efficient medical services, taking care of patients and the health of the vulnerable. There are 17 centres of excellence such as Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, Princess Sirindhorn Craniofacial Centre, Center for treatment of burns, Center for diabetes, hormone and metabolism, Center for cornea transplant and use of stem cells for treatment of cornea disease and Center for cerebral vascular disease, etc. The Hospital has acquired innovative and modern medical technologies for treatment of patients such as robotic surgery, Rabelon 1 and 1,000 Degrees Directions Arc Therapy Machine for example.

HM Queen Sirikit, President of the Thai Red Cross Society assigned Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society, to visit and distribute 1000 Thai Red Cross Relief Kits to tropical storm victims in Kalasin Province. 1,381 houses were destroyed on 8 May 2012.
A number of visitors were received at the Thai Red Cross Society:

Mr. Francesco Rocca, Commissioner General of Italian Red Cross Society paid a courtesy call on Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of TRCS, on 25 April 2012.

Lt.Gen. Amnat Barlee MD (Rtd.), Director of Relief and Community Health Bureau, welcomed and briefed delegates from Philippines Red Cross Society at the Disaster Operations Centre on 8 May 2012.

On 11 May 2012, Ms. Rashida Ali, Secretary General of Maldives Red Crescent, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of TRCS.

On 30 April 2012 at Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute of TRCS, H.E Mr. Lufti Rauf, Indonesia Ambassador to Thailand, presided over the signing of a tetanus-diphtheria (TD) vaccine collaboration agreement between Prof. Dr. Visith Sitprija, Director of Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute of TRCS, Mr. Vitoon Vonghangool, Managing Director of BioNet-Asia Co., Ltd. and Mr. Iskandar Obin Buhori, President of PT Bio Farma Co., Ltd.(Indonesia) at the Institute.

On 27th April, 2012, prizes were awarded by Mr Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society, to staff of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital for innovation and quality development proposals for lean management at the 4th Quality Market : Creation and Simplicity King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital’s style.
Dr. Sontaya Klomprein, representing Mr. Somkiet Apirupakorn, made a donation of Baht five million to Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General for TRCS, to be used in carrying out the activities of Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, the Thai Red Cross Society.

Mr. Worawut Nispkulthorn, Krungthai Card Public Company Limited, made a donation of Baht 2,598,419 on behalf of his company to M.R. Priyangsri Watanakul, Assistant Secretary General for Fund Raising and Director of Fund Raising Bureau, to help people affected by floods in Thailand.

Mr. Sutad Patamasiriwat, Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, donated a Toyota Vios car to M.R. Priyangsri Watanakun, Assistant Secretary General for Fund Raising/Director of Fund Raising Bureau for use in Thai Red Cross activities.

Khun Vanee Nakawatchara donated a surgical microscope to Orthopedics Dept. of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, TRCS. The price of the microscope was Baht 4,500,000.

Members of the Prasert-Tasanee Pungkuman Foundation, made a donation of Baht 3,000,000 to Assoc. Prof. Sophon Napatorn, Director of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Assoc. Prof. Prin Rochanapongphan, Head of Ophthalmology Dept. of the Hospital.

On 19 April 2012, at the Disaster Operations Centre, Mrs. Chusri Patcharoen, Asst. Managing Director of Krungsri Auto, together with her delegation, donated computers to Lt.Gen. Amnaj Barlee MD (Rtd.), Director of Relief and Community Health Bureau of TRCS to be given to needy schools.

College of Nursing of TRCS was awarded the Honorable Mention prize for ICD Rollator proposal at the Quality Market: Creation and Simplicity King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital's style. The event was held on 26-27 April 2012 at the Hospital.

Mr. Phan Wannamethee, representing HM Queen Sirikit, and the President of Chiang Rai Provincial Red Cross Chapter together with chapter members distributed 2,000 blankets to people in Chiang Rung and Chiang Khong Districts during a cold spell.
The President of the Chapter, Committee and chapter members together with Chiang Khong Red Cross District Branch Chapter visited and gave stipends to 6 families who were fire victims. All of them received Red Cross Relief Kits and blankets.

President of Pitsanulok Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Committee and chapter members gave a floating house to a flood victim. The President also visited a number of elderly people giving them financial help and Red Cross Relief Kits.

President of Suphan Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Committee and chapter members gave financial help to fire victims in Sam Chuk District and also visited elderly people.

President of Samut Songkram Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Committee and chapter members distributed 330 Red Cross Relief Kits to people with disabilities, elderly people and natural disaster victims in Districts of Ampawa, Bang Kontee and Bang Bor in Samut Songkram Province.

The President of Pattani Provincial Red Cross Chapter accompanied by the Governor distributed foodstuffs to needy people at Baan Kor Chan School in Ma Yor District of Pattani Province.

Governor of Trad Province / President of Trad Provincial Red Cross Chapter presided over a training course at Rajkarun Centre, TRCS.

The President of Buriram Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Committee and chapter members visited and gave assistance to needy families.

The President of Trang Provincial Red Cross Chapter, Committee and chapter members visited and provided scholarships and bicycles to children in remote areas and also provided blankets, clothing and eyeglasses to the elderly.

Families of fire victims in Muang District were given Red Cross Relief Kits and financial help by the President of Chon Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Committee and chapter members. The Chapter collaborated with Regional Blood Centre III to collect blood donations every Friday at the Office of Chon Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter.
