THAI RED CROSS ACTIVITIES IN PICTURES (JUNE 1/2012)


On the occasion of the 98th Anniversary of the founding of the Thai Red Cross College of Nursing on 16 June 2012, the College is pleased to invite people to an Open House and join health activities on 14 June 2012 at Thai Red Cross College of Nursing located on Rama IV Rd. The Thai Red Cross College of Nursing is the first College of Nursing in Thailand and is now an institute at Chulalongkorn University. Its aims are to educate nurses to the undergraduate level and teach specialized training curricula. It cooperates with nursing colleges of the Japanese, Korean, and Swedish Red Cross.

On 16 May 2012 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of TRCS, presided over a press conference to announce the availability of a MRI Simulator for treatment of cancer patients at the Hospital. It is the first of its kind in Thailand and is available for free treatment for the whole of the year 2012 for cancer patients already being treated by the Hospital’s Radiology Department to mark the auspicious occasion on HM Queen Sirikit’s 80th Birthday.

The National Blood Centre of TRCS organized festivities to mark World Blood Donor Day 2012 on 10 June 2012 at the National Blood Centre on Henry Dunant Rd., Bangkok. “Every blood donor is a hero” was the theme of the event. There were various activities such as blood, stem cell, and eye and organ donations. Plaques and prizes were awarded to winners of super hero character, winners of the competition to inspire blood donation and winners of the poster competition. Certificates were also awarded to blood donors who have donated more than 100 times.
A management training course for staff of Provincial Red Cross Chapters was held between 16-17 May 2012 by the Personnel Bureau of the TRCS. The course aimed to increase and develop managerial competencies of Chapter office staff and to allow for exchange of experience among the 76 Officers participating. Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of TRCS opened the the training.
Mr.Sawanit Kongsiri, Assistant Secretary General for External Relations of TRCS, presided over two dissemination sessions on knowledge of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and Red Cross Emblem to volunteers and Committee members of Ayudhaya Provincial Red Cross Chapter. The dissemination sessions is a cooperation between TRCS, ICRC and Ayudhaya Provincial Red Cross Chapter. The sessions were held on 14-16 June 2012 at Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya Convention Center.

To alleviateAfter the suffering of victims hit by the major floodingfloods which affected Thailand in 2011, began to recede, the TRCS is conducting 93 rehabilitationset up a committee to decide on and oversee a recovery programsand reconstruction programme. To date the TRCS has conducted 93 recovery projects with donated funds totaling the value of Baht118,597,585.81. The Projects are being overseen by a committee set up to manage monies donated for flood recovery programmes.
Relief Activities are as followed:
1. Relief and Community Health Bureau is conducting projects to repair Red Cross Health Stations, communications vehicles, schools in conjunction with Provincial Red Cross Chapters, as well as strengthening community and school resilience. 2. National Blood Centre a project to improve and establish better flood preventive measures at the Regional Blood Center in Nakhon Sawan Province.
3. Lob Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter a project for the recovery of Po Kao
Ton School.
4. Phra Nakhon Sri AyutthayaProvincial Red Cross Chapter a project to construct new
houses for flood victims.
5. PatumThani Provincial Red Cross Chapter a project to repair Chapter Office.
6. Phrae Provincial Red Cross Chapter a rehabilitation programme for flooded areas in Sung Men District.
7. Pichit Provincial Red Cross Chapter a project torepair and renovate houses affected by floods in Bung Na Rang District
8. Sing Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter a rehabilitation rogramme for flood victims

Senior citizens in Inburi District, Sing Buri Province were given blankets and tracksuits by Sing Buri Governor and President of Sing Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter. The Japanese Ambassador to Thailand presided over the opening ceremony to promote the health and income of senior citizens at Pranonjaksri Temple.

Tak Deputy Governor and Tak Provincial Red Cross Chapter together with Chapter committee members coordinated with Red Cross Health Station No.13 to visit and donate household items to fire victims at Aumpium Centre, Pob Phra District, Tak Province. A blood donation was held at Padaeng Industry Co PCL and Bhumibol Dam where a total of 33,300 cc. of blood was collected from 74 blood donors.

Uthai Thani Deputy Governor, the Head of Relief Department of Relief and Community Health Bureau TRCS and Uthai Thani Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Committee members visited a project for capacity building for protection and disaster relief at Wat Doang Yang Tai school.

Tropical storm victims at Pak Aow Temple, Baan Lam District in Petchburi Province were given financial assistance by the President of Petchburi Provincial Red Cross Chapter. Three buddhist monks were provided Red Cross Relief Kits.

An orphan, living in Muang District, Krabi Province was visited and given financial assistance, consumer items, bedding, electric fan and household items by Krabi Governor and President of Krabi Provincial Red Cross Chapter. 57 children, patients at Krabi Hospital, were visited on the occasion of Children’s Day.

Chaiyaphum Provincial Red Cross Chapter distributed relief items to
needy people, 1,255 students were given bicycles, and 1,911 victims of fire, storm and cold weather were given relief items.

Fire Victims in Baan Had District, Khon Khan Province, were given relief items by the President of Khon Khan Provincial Red Cross Chapter and members. The Chapter also collected blood donations at K-Technology School.

President of Ang Thong Provincial Red Cross Chapter together with Chapter committee and members visited and provided consumer items to the elderly, the needy and disabled in Muang District, Ang Thong Province. The Chapter also organized an annual training course on making artificial flowers for elderly people at Klong Voe District Hall in order to help them earn a living.
