THAI RED CROSS ACTIVITIES IN PICTURES (JUNE 2/2012)

The Mobile Eye & Minor Surgery Clinic of the TRCS under HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s patronage treated 50 patients for cataracts, 2 patients were operated for both cataracts and glaucoma and 55 patients were operated for pterygium at Muenklao Temple, Angthong Province.  Donations to this project may be made at the Relief and Community Health Bureau, TRCS, Tel. 0 2251 7853 ext. 1603 or Tel. 1664


 

Mr. Sanit Kunaporn, Managing Director of Alpha Health and Beauty (Thailand) Co., Ltd., together with Mr. Vichai Akesan, a director of the company,  presented 200,000 Baht to Mr. Phan Wannmethee, Secretary General and Dr. Uraiwan Tinnangwatana, Specialist, TRCS, to support  the Mobile Eye Surgery Clinic under H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s patronage.


Patients being given eye checkup by the Mobile Eye & Minor Surgery Clinic of the Relief and Community Health Bureau, TRCS. The Unit was working between 28 May – 1 June 2012 at the Recreation Building of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand in Nonthaburi Province.

On 5 June 2012, Mr. Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of TRCS, presided over the opening of a seminar on capacity building for Provincial Red Cross Branch Chapters from fourteen provinces at Kosa Hotel in Khon Kaen Province. Altogether 5 seminars will be held around the country for all Branch Chapters so that they may better carry out their mission to help in disaster relief and preparedness, collect blood donations and give support to the vulnerable.  Budget and financial regulations are also being stressed.


 

Mr. Thongchai Ittiamornkul, Assistant Managing Director of Betagro Group, recently made a donation in the amount of Bt 1,000,000 to Than Puying Pensri Wacharothai, committee member of Friends in Need of “Pa” Foundation, TRCS, to help flood victims in Lop Buri Province.

Ms. Kannika Chalitaporn, Managing Director of Siam Commercial Bank Pcl., made a donation in the amount of Bt 12,000,000  to Dr. Soi-Saang Pikulsod, Director of National Blood Centre of TRCS, for the construction of two mobile blood donation vehicles to mark the 80th Birthday Anniversary of HM Queen Sirikit, President of the TRCS.  Siam Commercial Bank Pcl. last year also presented two mobile blood donation vehicles to the National Blood Centre.

TRCS is pleased to express congratulations to Prof. Dr. Sumana Khomvilai, Deputy Director of Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute for Administrative Affairs, TRCS, on the occasion of being awarded an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy, by the Department of Pharmacy of Ubon Ratchathani University. Also, she was selected to be  outstanding pharmacist  for 2011.


Prof. Dr. Narongsak Chaiyabutr, Deputy Director of Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute for Academic Affairs, TRCS, has been appointed Professor Emeritus of Chulalongkorn University. He plays a significant role in teaching, research and management at the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University.


Dr. Lawan Chanhome, a Specialist Doctor at the Snake Farm of Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute, TRCS, has been named Exemplary Veterinarian for 2011 by the Veterinary Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage.  At the Snake Farm, she initiated breeding of venomous snakes such as Malayan Krait, Banded Krait, Green Pit Viper and other snakes helping to advance medical service to help people.


Mr. Tej Bunnag, Assistant Secretary General for Administrative Affairs of TRCS, presided over a seminar to raise work preparedness of administrative officers of provincial Red Cross chapters held between11-12 June 2012 at National Blood Centre of TRCS.  The seminar aims to increase and strengthen knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations, accounting, membership recruitment etc. 30 participants attended the seminar.

Between 21-25 May 2012 in Pattalung and Trang Povinces, Volunteer Bureau of TRCS led volunteers to visit people living with HIV Aids. Volunteers encouraged and assisted people living with aids to better look after themselves and to take proper care of their health and to better their nutrition intake.

On 2 May 2012, Dr. Visist Dhitavat, Director of Organ Donation Centre of TRCS and Mr. Thankun Chitissara, a movie star, gave a special lecture on organ transplant and donation to first year students at Sri Nakariwirote University. A booth was set up to receive organ donations.

 

 

As part of its recovery and rehabilitation activities after the major flooding which affected much of Thailand in 2011, the TRCS is conducting 93 projects with donated funds totaling Baht 118,597,585.81. Some of the Projects being overseen by a committee set up to manage monies donated for flood recovery programmes are:

- Pitsanulok Provincial Red Cross Chapter is conducting projects for repairing  check dams, constructing embankments, renovating schools, and constructing drinking water filtration systems.

- Nontha Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter is conducting projects for repairing schools, libraries, school canteens, playgrounds, restrooms, classrooms and fences.

- Nakhon Nayok Provincial Red Cross Chapter is constructing drainage channels, repairing roads, repairing school buildings and playgrounds, building check dams, dredging canals, and constructing houses for the poor.

- Nakhon Pathom Provincial Red Cross Chapter is repairing schools, canteens, and a self-sufficientcy economy centre

- Sukhothai Provincial Red Cross is repairing houses for the needy, developing buildings and walkways in schools.

- Suphan Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapter is repairing houses and providing vocational training.

- Ang Thong Provincial Red Cross Chapter is repairing and improving its office.

Nontha Buri and Lop Buri Provincial Red Cross Chapters in coordination with Lt.Gen.(Retd). Amnat Barlee MD, Director of Relief and Community Health Bureau, TRCS, organized activities to build capacity for disaster protection and mitigation for schools. Knowledge of how to prepare for disasters was disseminated. Students were given warning Red Cross T-shirts together with kits for evacuation.

Fire victims at Huatapan District, Amnaj Charoen Province were given financial help, Red Cross Relief Kit and clothes by Amnaj Charoen Province officials, the President of Amnaj Charoen Provincial Red Cross Chapter and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department officials.

Between 21-26 May, 2012, at Naratiwas Hospital, the Naratiwat Governor presided over the Nice Smile Project and Repair of cleft lip, cleft palate and other deformities Project. Dr. Pichit Siriwan, Deputy Director of Relief and Community Health Bureau of TRCS, led the Bureau’s doctors, volunteers and Naratiwas Provincial Red Cross Chapter members who participated.

 

Kornsan District Branch of Chaiyapoom Provincial Red Cross Chapter, gave assistance to tropical storms victims.


75 students were given certificates of honour by the President of the Klaeng Provincial Red Cross Branch having qualified by passing an anti – drug policy course. The Branch also collected 119,150 cc. of blood from 293 donors and received pledges to make eye donation from 54 donors. The Branch visited 11 impoverish and ill people in the District as well.

 

President of  Damnuen Saduek Distict Branch, Chapter committee and members, visited homeless elderly people at Don Kluey Sub District. Fire victims in the District also received assistance.

President of Chai Prakan Distict Branch of the Provincial Red Cross Chapter in Chiang Mai Province together with Chapter's committee and members gave help to disaster victims at Ban Huy Namdib in Chai Prakan District.  The President of the Branch donated blankets to 43 families to alleviate the unusually cold weather.

On 5 May 2012, World Environment Day, at Twin Lotus Hotel, the Nakhon  Srithammarat Governor presided over the signing ceremony of an MoU on increasing the capacity of coastal communities at risk from climate change between the President of Nakhon Srithammarat Provincial Red Cross Chapter, the Director of Relief and Community Health Bureau of TRCS and  Dr. Arnon Snidtvongs Na Ayudhaya, Director of the Centre for Research and Analysis Network on Climate Change.

Alumni Association of College of Nursing, TRCS is pleased to invite people to join its Annual Walk for Health in 2012. The event will be held on 7 July 2012 at Lumpini Park between 06.00-08.00 am. There will be various activities such as health check, general medical checkup for blood pressure, diabetes and BMI measurement.

Between 11-12 June 2012 at Tawanna Ramada Hotel, Prof. Sakchai Limthongkul, M.D, Assistant Secretary General, TRCS, presided over the College of Nursing of TRCS’s academic meeting on “Nursing and Improving Women’s Health”. The meeting marked the auspicious occasion of the 80th Birthday Anniversary of HM Queen Sirikit, President of TRCS. There were special lectures on status of Thai women’s health, improving women’s health, unwanted pregnancy among teenagers, and cancer of the reproductive system.
