Disaster Preparedness and Response

Thai Red Cross Society quickly reach victims and provide relief services to those affected by disasters nationwide including flooding, storms, fire, droughts and cold weather. Victims receive immediate assistance through the participation of society and communities. Thai Red Cross Society has a volunteer management system and develops disaster response plans for people in disaster-prone areas which will be turned into pilot communities with disaster response preparedness.

Relief assistance in times of disaster is carried out by the Relief and Community Health Bureau as well as the Volunteer Bureau. Assistance is provided to those affected at the time of disasters and later to assist them to resume a normal life. Relief assistance is also extended to people living in remote areas and to those in disadvantaged urban areas, regardless of race, religion or belief. Readiness is ensured to cope with emergencies, whether it be in terms of personnel, materials, transportation or communications. Moreover, the floating clinic, the “Vejapaha”, with its mobile medical team usually provide medical and dental care to thousands of people living along the rivers and canals of the central plains of Thailand.
