On 26 April 2021, the Thai Red Cross Society donated 1,000,000 Baht to the Myanmar Red Cross Society via the Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon, to support the latter’s humanitarian operations during the situations which have been taking place in Myanmar since February 2021. The donation was handed over to Prof. Dr. Htin Zaw Soe, Secretary General of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, by the Thai Ambassador at the Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon.
Currently, the Thai Red Cross Society is in the process of preparing 2,000,000 Baht worth of first aid equipment, walking shoes and other items for donation to the
Myanmar Red Cross Society. Earlier, it sent a condolences letter to the Myanmar Red Cross Society over the situations in Myanmar. It has also opened a bank account to accept donations from the general public to support the Myanmar Red Cross Society’s humanitarian work.
The Myanmar Red Cross Society is committed to providing humanitarian assistance, especially first aid, to affected people. However, it has been experiencing shortages of first aid equipment and kits, ambulances, folding stretchers, walking shoes, food and beverages for its staff and volunteers.
On 15 March 2021, leaders of the Southeast Asia Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies plus the Timor-Leste Red Cross Society agreed at a virtual regional meeting to express their solidarity with the Myanmar Red Cross Society in its humanitarian efforts in Myanmar.
