On 8 November 2023, Mr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General of Thai Red Cross Society, hands over a financial contribution of 20,000 USD (727,000 THB) to assist Libya through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) emergency appeal. In the handover event, Ms. Caroline Holt, Director of Disaster, Climate and Crises, represents IFRC in receiving this contribution. This appeal will support the operations of Libyan Red Crescent Society to help flood victims in the affected area in Libya
On 10 September 2023. Storm Daniel hit north-eastern Libya, which led to massive floods and escalated the collapse of two dams in Derna. The floods caused 9,730 casualties, 25,000 missing, and over one million affected people. Buildings and facilities in the city were devastated. Libyan Red Crescent Society and IFRC continue working together on relief operations to assist the victims.
