Thai Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), organized the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2024 event to commemorate the 161st anniversary of the establishment of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the 131st anniversary of Thai Red Cross Society. The event, held in Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province, aims to raise environmental awareness and promote volunteerism among Thai and international youth.
On 3 May 2024, Mr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General of Thai Red Cross Society, along with Mr. Juan Pedro Schaerer, ICRC’s Head of Regional Delegation in Bangkok, and Ms. Kathryn Clarkson, IFRC’s Head of Country Delegation for Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, IFRC, presided over the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2024 event under the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive”, and the occasion of signing the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organizations committing to reduce the impact of climate change and environmental degradation. This year’s event brings together over 100 Red Cross youth representatives from Thailand and other Southeast and East Asian countries participating in the International Red Cross Red Crescent Youth Network (RCYN) Hack Lab: Workshop for Community Innovation, along with over 50 staff members from all three organizations. Participants engaged in activities under the theme of “Save the World and Serve Community through Green Activities”, including building crab banks, repairing nature trails, managing waste, and constructing shoreline garbage barriers in the Ban Bon community of Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province. These activities aim to conserve natural areas and ecosystems along the coastline, instill a sense of environmental responsibility in youth in a sustainable manner, and promote sustainable volunteerism.
