On 12 November 2020, the Thai Red Cross Society donated 30,000 US dollars (915,000 Baht) for disaster relief and sent a condolence letter to the Philippine Red Cross following natural disaster caused by Typhoon Goni. The typhoon hit the southern part of Luzon on 27 October 2020 and later turned into a super typhoon, causing sudden floods and landslides. The disaster claimed 22 lives, caused injuries to 165 people, affected more than 1,190,000 others and damaged over 50,000 houses.
Earlier in October 2020, the Philippines had already been affected by several tropical storms. The Philippine Red Cross immediately responded to the disasters by providing the affected with daily necessities, first aid and rescue operations, psychosocial support and other kinds of services. It was requesting support from the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
