29 May 2025 – Mr. Tej Bunnag, Thai Red Cross Society Secretary General, along with representatives from humanitarian partners including the Japanese Red Cross Society, ICRC, IFRC, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly delivered vaccines and serums valued at 6,278,050 Baht to the Border Health Learning Center under the Ministry of Public Health at Mae Sot Hospital, Tak Province. This initiative marks the occasion of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025, under the theme “On the Side of Humanity.”
Tak Province, a border area long affected by humanitarian issues stemming from instability in neighboring countries, continues to experience flows of migration of vulnerable populations. This situation increases the risk of communicable disease outbreaks among border communities. In response, Thai Red Cross Society launched the “Vaccines and Medicines for Vulnerable Groups Along the Thai-Myanmar Border” project in collaboration with various partners. The project aims to procure vaccines and serums and provide them to the Border Health Learning Center for vaccination service to vulnerable Thai and non-Thai populations with limited access to healthcare. The goal is to reduce the spread and severity of infectious diseases and to ease the burden on healthcare personnel in border areas.
The donated vaccines and serum antivenins include more than 15,000 doses of MMR, HPV, aP, dT, IIV4, PVRV, Snake Antivenins (NPAV, HPAV, GPAV), and RIG. The Border Health Learning Center will manage and distribute these supplies to hospitals in five border districts to deliver vaccines to vulnerable groups in Thai border areas. These groups include low-income locals, persons with disabilities, displaced persons (especially children and pregnant women), migrant workers, ethnic minorities, and stateless individuals.
Previously, in August 2023, the Thai Red Cross Society donated 50,000 doses of the HPV vaccines to five district hospitals in Tak Province including Mae Sot, Umphang, Mae Ramat, Tha Song Yang, and Phop Phra for administration to vulnerable groups, particularly young girls.
