On 9 September 2025, Mr. Elkhan Rahimov, Head of Delegation, Country Cluster for for Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society, and Dr. Apichart Chinwanno, Assistant Secretary General for International Affairs, on the occasion of assuming his new position. They discussed humanitarian cooperation with the Thai Red Cross Society, as well as collaboration with other National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and international organizations.
Mr. Elkan Rahimov has extensive experience working with the Red Cross Movement in Europe and Central Asia since 1999. He previously served as Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society. Before assuming his new position in Thailand, he was IFRC Head of Delegation, Country Cluster for Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore and Timor-Leste.
On this occasion, the Secretary General of Thai Red Cross Society presented an additional donation from the people in Thailand, USD 100,000 (approximately THB 3.3 million) to the IFRC Emergency Appeal for assisting earthquake victims in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as well as a further USD 10,000 (approximately THB 330,000) from Thai Red Cross Society’s budget to the IFRC Emergency Appeal for earthquake victims in Afghanistan.
