The Thai Red Cross Society is a leading national organization with volunteer services programs. Its integrative volunteer management systems give opportunities for Thai Red Cross volunteers to serve operations to improve and promote the quality of life of the elderly, needy children and youths as well as monks. In addition, this system results in an increase number of volunteers who have been trained according to Thai Red Cross Society’s standards. The work of Thai Red Cross volunteers equally benefits those in need.
As part of its volunteer services programs which meet the needs of the ageing population in society with disintegrating extended families, the Thai Red Cross Society initiated home care and elderly care programs. Another example is the Thai Red Cross Children Home that is for abandoned children.
Furthermore, the Red Cross Youth Bureau engages in development programs among young people for promoting a sense of social responsibility and knowledge of the Red Cross principles for them to become valuable for their communities. Health education, first aid training, understanding of various social and environmental problems and IHL’s dissemination of knowledge of international humanitarian law (IHL) are particularly emphasized.
