On 21 November 2024, Thai Red Cross Society delegates attended the commemoration event “20 Years on: Remembering the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lt. Gen. Amnat Barlee, M.D., Director of Relief and Community Health Bureau (RCHB), was one of the panelists in the discussion on the topic: “Post-disaster recovery, lessons learnt, and experience sharing”, which aimed to raise awareness on disaster reduction, especially early warning systems, building community resilience, and Asia-Pacific disaster collaboration, on the occasion of Thailand’s contribution to the UNESCAP Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Tsunami, Disaster, and Climate Preparedness.
In addition, the RCHB presented an exhibition on Thai Red Cross Society’s humanitarian responses in the 2004 tsunami and mourned the loss of lives from this devastating disaster.
