Thai Red Cross Society delegation led by Mr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General, attended the 24th session of the General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), 2024 Council of Delegates of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and 34th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, from 22 – 31 October 2024 at the International Conference Centre of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland. These series of meetings aimed to allow members of The Movement to review and discuss humanitarian policies, such as IFRC’s Health Policy, Youth Engagement Strategy and resolutions related to the works of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Moreover, the General Assembly also approved amendments to the IFRC Constitution which included changes in constitutional texts, rules of procedure, financial regulations, and staff rules.
During the 24th IFRC General Assembly, the Henry Davison Award, one of the most prestigious awards of the IFRC, was presented to recognize and honor those who dedicate themselves to humanitarian work and improving the quality of life of vulnerable people. This year, Dr. Uraiwan Tinnungwattana, an ophthalmologist from the Relief and Community Health Bureau, and Chair of Thai Red Cross Society’s Eye Surgery Project in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, was chosen to receive this award for her remarkable dedication over the past 30 years in providing eye examinations and surgeries for the impoverished communities in remote areas, as well as providing corrective eyeglasses for rural students. On this occasion, Dr. Apichart Chinwanno, Assistant Secretary General for International Affairs received this award on her behalf.
