Mr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General, together with the delegates and youth representatives from Thai Red Cross Society participated in the 19th Southeast Asia Leaders Meeting hosted by Brunei Red Crescent Society in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, from 6-7 October 2022. This event aimed to enhance humanitarian collaboration in Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in the region.
In the meeting, Thai Red Cross Secretary General presented progresses of Bangkok Statements included COVID19 pandemic responses, financial transformative action for sustainability, and youth mobilization. The members also agreed on development of Southeast Asia Network for First Aid Reference Center and the approach to further engage with ASEAN based on the MoU signed between ASEAN and IFRC in May 2022.
This year also marked a significant step for the first-time in achieving gender balance in the IFRC governing board. Her Highness Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, Chairperson of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society was also elected as one of the five representatives for the Asia Pacific Region.
Southeast Asia Youth Forum is one of the highlights in this meeting. The forum promotes youth participation and leadership skills in humanitarian works. Ms. Kanjaree Suppawittaya represented Thai Red Cross Society youths in the forum.
