Mr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General of Thai Red Cross Society, co-chaired the 5th Thai-Lao Red Cross Conference with Mr. Khamlavanh Chanthalavanh, President of the Lao Red Cross, in Bangkok from 26-27 May 2026.
79 delegates attended the conference, including representatives from Thai Red Cross Society, Lao Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as well as H.E. Mr. Sisavath Inphachanh, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to Thailand, and representatives from the Department of East Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.
This conference aimed to review the progress of Thai-Lao cooperation after the 4th Lao-Thai Red Cross Conference, specifically in areas such as disaster relief, health promotion, blood services, youth and volunteer initiatives, fundraising, communications, and cooperation between Thai and Lao border provincial chapters. The conference agreed to prioritize cooperation on blood transfusion services and fundraising initiatives, as well as set up a systematic follow-up mechanism.
Lao Red Cross delegation also made a study visit at National Blood Centre, Fund Raising Bureau, and Relief and Community Health Bureau
